Alexander Shorokhoff has again been awarded for their, SHAR watch, which takes the form of a perfect sphere.
The SHAR ball watch was named the ‘Gold Winner 2023’ in the ‘Wristwatches’ category by the jury of the New York Product Design Awards, for its unique and innovative design. It was also recognised for its high precision and innovative case design and high quality craftsmanship.
With a diameter of 25mm, the case and the sapphire crystal on the front are united in the form of a sphere. In order to connect the case back and body without additional edges and holes, a single screw construction was developed. The screw is located in the centre of the case-back, connects the two parts in a waterproof manner and also has a hemispherical shape that matches the overall shape.
The lugs are also made of small balls. To attach them to the case, a clever construction was also devised. The most important thing for the lugs is that they are absolutely horizontal, so that the lugs are perpendicular to the case. This was achieved by using a rectangular strap lug holder and a rectangular hole in the case.
Inside the watch is the Swiss movement ETA.2671 with automatic winding. The rotor of the movement was hand-engraved, as usual for Alexander Shorokhoff. The dial impresses with hand engraved floral motifs and was then gold-plated.
The award is further proof of the quality and innovative design of the SHAR ball watch and underlines its status as one of the most innovative watches of today.
