Ferdinand Berthoud Offer One Movement In A Choice Of Two Cases

This regulator-type chronometer movement with tourbillon and fusee-and-chain transmission is the result of comprehensive technical and aesthetic development and is inspired by marine clock no. 8, produced by Ferdinand Berthoud, the master-watchmaker in Paris in 1768.

The dial in black PVD nickel silver is decorated with vertical satin-brushed and sandblasted finishes and offers two openings: the hours at 2 o’clock, the minutes at 12 o’clock and the power reserve at 10 o’clock. The production of this movement will be strictly limited to 20 in all where the choice of watch exterior will be left to the collector.

The new movement comes in either a round case in 18-carat rose gold (FB 2RS.2) or in an octagonal case fitted with two transparent sapphire portholes (FB 1RS.6) offered by the manufacture. Both cases of the chronomètre picks up the shape of marine clocks and this modular construction. The movement is installed in a cylindrical container of 44 mm in diameter and 14 mm thick made of 18-carat gold. A large panoramic window appears at 10 o’clock along the case middle in a screw-down frame and reveals the movement’s pillar-type architecture, as well as the barrel and its chain.

The FB-T.FC-RS calibre is the first skeleton movement produced by the manufacture. Nearly a year of trials was needed to achieve this level of finishing, enabling the complexity of this new movement on the dial side to be fully admired.

The decoration alone of each movement thus requires dozens of different craftsmanship skills. The tourbillon bridge visible on the dial side is in itself a tour de force, with its mirror-polished and chamfered surfaces, polished flanks, and sandblasted underside.
