The iconic Newport, launched in 1988, catapulted the Michel Herbelin French Watchmaking Studio to international attention. Elegantly urban, the Newport Slim proudly displays a streamlined silhouette, powered by a manually wound mechanical movement.
The Newport has been Michel Herbelin’s best-seller for over 30 years. Building on this success in order to plan for the future, Mathieu Herbelin – grandson of the founder and Associate Creative Director of the watchmaking brand – returned to the original model with the aim of updating it. Persuaded by the trend for classicism, he refined the design in every way, while skilfully preserving its identity.
Just 7.30 mm thick – a first for the Newport – the stainless steel 42 mm diameter case retains the traditional central horns and crown engraved with a ship’s wheel. Divided into three intricately carved facets, its polished finish sculpts the light, playing on the overall styling.
Standing out against the black case back, reflecting bluish glints at the slightest movement, the faceted steel index hour markers appear smartly tapered, just like the dagger-shaped hands. These are largely functional, bringing the Newport Slim to life, showing the time in hours and minutes.
The Newport Slim is fitted with a Swiss-made manually wound mechanical Sellita movement. Incorporating 19- jewels and oscillating at 28,800 beats per hour, it offers a 42-hour power reserve. Luxury mechanical watch enthusiasts will be thrilled to discover that the transparent case back allows its inner workings to be admired.
