Three Is The Magic Number For Louis Erard

Three Is The Magic Number For Louis Erard

We are huge admirers of the Louis Erard brand who create watches that are original and authentic with a strong horological history while embodying today’s essential need for affordability.

They never completely reinvent the classic timepiece, but give it new meaning, as they have done with the Excellence Triptych series. At the heart of the collection is the Excellence Régulateur, sporting two distinctive vertical counters – hours at the top, seconds at the bottom – and a large central minute hand.

The ‘Regulator’ dial layout was developed in the 18th century due to the need for an extremely accurate standard timekeeper by which other clocks could be set. Regulators were used in Observatories, large country houses, clock workshops and retailers premises. Refinements to the movements included maintaining power, a spring device to keep the clock going whilst winding, jewelled movements, deadbeat escapement and sophisticated compensated pendulums.

Each of the three models has its own technical and aesthetic defining features. But they are built in the same spirit, with common aspects between them, such as a family portrait spanning several generations.

Did you know that the Louis Erard blue has been inspired by the magical blue hour. It refers to the time after the sun goes below the horizon and the sky goes into deep blue for a while. It is also an elegant nod to the traditional blue screws and hands of Swiss watchmaking.
