An Epic Vortic Journey – From Pocket To Wrist

An Epic Vortic Journey – From Pocket To Wrist

We have featured the Vortic Watch Company and it’s founders on MrWatchMaster and are great admirers of the brand.

The true inspiration behind Vortic’s American Artisan Series watches is a simple idea that they had it right the first time. Before the United States got away from watchmaking in the mid-1900’s, it produced millions of beautiful, high-quality pocket watches that became more than just a way to tell time.

The domestically-made pocket watches became heirlooms that were passed down through generations, signifying the deep roots of quality manufacturing in America that, while covered with dirt, still exist today.

I bought a Waltham pocket watch (below) at an ‘antique and collectables’ fair and restored it back to working order – it just needed a basic clean!

I’m a huge collector of antique pocket watches, and was immediately drawn to the watch by its stylised look – the watch was made around 1910, which places it in the ‘Art Nouveau’ period – which was different and rather attractive. I also appreciated the beautiful blued steel ‘Breguet’ moon styled hands that complimented the gold Arabic numerals.

Having been introduced to the Vortic Watch Company, it got me thinking about the Waltham watch and the potential to convert it to a wrist watch as a practical solution.

I contacted the team at Vortic who were fantastic from the start of the ‘journey’ (and continue to be so!). They explained what I needed to do to get the watch shipped and to ensure it was packaged properly so it didn’t get damaged on the way. This was great advice and was a straightforward process.

When the watch was received, the next step was to select the materials and design the watch. A secure link was sent to enter the ‘Watch Builder’ and the journey continued…

It was amazing to see how the Waltham – now renamed ‘The Boston 350’ – from 1909 would now look in a machined titanium case with gold crown (to compliment the numerals!). As the reality of the transformation began, the excitement and expectation began to build at pace.

Having made the custom selections for the case, crown, strap and engraving, it was now time for the Vortic watch maker to begin the meticulous restoration of the watch movement.

During this time the brilliant team at Vortic kept me updated with progress and an estimated completion date. The build of the watch continued and was carried out by a highly qualified watch maker.

This luxury watch conversion service from Vortic, included all of the upgrades and custom selections featured in their watch builder. The whole process takes around 12-weeks. I’m absolutely delighted with the outcome and look forward to wearing the ‘newly transformed’ Boston 350 (below) with pride.

We would strongly recommend you experience this ‘incredible Vortic journey’. The level of customer service associated with the project was second to none. Each timepiece produced comes with a personal design consultation and consistent updates throughout the process to ensure your happiness.
