What Happens At A Watch Meetup

What Happens At A Watch Meetup

By Hamish Robertson

The Watch community is famous for holding Meetups, and we want to highlight just quite why they are so much fun.

What happens at a Watch Meetup?

A Watch Meetup is where a group of people interested in watches meet specifically to discuss and look at watches. Everyone is welcome, whether you have been collecting for years or are just getting started. You don’t need to own or take a watch, if you’re curious then that’s enough.

At The Watch Collectors’ Club Meetups in London, we want everyone to feel welcome. There’s room for people with years of experience and people with the beginnings of an interest. We want people who are hungry to explore their first few corners of the watch world to enjoy the events just as much as someone who has bought and sold countless timepieces of different kinds.

We actively host our events. We make sure everyone is involved and that they can see the watches people have brought along.

There are other Meetup groups around the world, including the global Redbar Group, city-based watch clubs such as the Singapore or Paris Watch Clubs, and horological organisations such as the British Horological Institute and the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers in the UK. All of these groups hold regular meetups.

See A Variety of Watches in Real-Life

The most wonderful thing about watch meetups is you never know what people are going to bring along. The variety never ceases to amaze me. For example here are some of the wonderful watches I’ve seen at a Meetup recently:

Two Vintage Rolexes
A Universale Geneve Tricompax
A New Cartier Tank

The chance to see great watches in-person and not on a screen should not be underestimated. Every meetup involves trying on watches and getting up close and personal with incredible timepieces.

Some watch Meetups are held with Retailers, so that you can explore their range of new watches and learn from their staff and salespeople. They might bring their Brand Director, or even special pieces over from their Headquarters for these events. These Meetups may be in different venues and more focused on new watches, but they have the same goal – help you see awesome watches in real-life and meet other watch lovers.

Two Short Talks

The Watch Collectors’ Club exists to help you learn more about the watch world. There is so much to cover, so many interesting stories and timepieces, that even the most experienced collector can learn something new when they are least expecting it. At our Meetups we give a couple of five minute talks to help you learn more. While it might be on a topic you know a bit about, it’ll always be from a different angle and trying to put things in context. We avoid jargon, reference numbers or dry facts, instead we hope to open up areas of the watch world you might not have considered looking at before. We’re here to help.

A Different Kind of Watch Event with The Watch Collectors’ Club

We know that a lot of the watch world is exclusive, complicated and hard to understand. Watch meetups of all kinds help break down barriers. The Watch Collectors’ Club is a real-life community for the curious, where you’ll get closer to the watches you’re interested.  You’ll find a diverse range of people sharing the watches they like. We’re a group of enthusiasts who became friends because we love watches and want to know more.

We hope to see you at a Meetup sometime soon.
